FAS siRNA refers to small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to target and silence the expression of the Fas cell surface death receptor (Fas, CD95, APO-1). Fas is a member of the tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily that plays a critical role in programmed cell death (apoptosis). By post-transcriptionally silencing Fas expression, FAS siRNA inhibits Fas-mediated apoptotic pathways, thereby protecting cells from death receptor-induced apoptosis. This therapeutic approach has been investigated in preclinical models for various conditions, including acute liver failure, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), diabetic retinopathy, type 1 diabetes, myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury, and intervertebral disc degeneration.
