FAS31 is an orally available small molecule inhibitor of fatty acid synthase (FASN), a metabolic enzyme that is often upregulated in cancer cells to support increased lipogenesis. Developed by the research team behind earlier FASN inhibitors such as C75 and FAS93 (C93), FAS31 was engineered to overcome the systemic toxicity—specifically significant weight loss—associated with first-generation inhibitors. Preclinical studies in ovarian cancer xenograft models have demonstrated that FAS31 can achieve significant tumor reduction without affecting the body weight of the subjects or causing observable damage to normal tissues in rodent models. By targeting FASN, the drug disrupts the synthesis of long-chain fatty acids, thereby impairing the structural integrity and metabolic processes of malignant cells.
