Overview

Fast TIL is an autologous adoptive cellular therapy (ACT) consisting of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) derived from a patient's pleural fluid, specifically termed pleural infiltrating T cells (PITs). Developed by Dr. David Bartlett at the Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Cancer Institute, the therapy involves the rapid isolation and expansion of these T cells, which are then re-administered to the patient via an indwelling pleural catheter. The treatment protocol includes lymphodepleting chemotherapy followed by the intrapleural infusion of the expanded PIT cells and subsequent administration of low-dose Interleukin-2 (IL-2) to enhance T-cell survival and anti-tumor activity. It is currently being evaluated in a Phase I clinical trial for patients with malignant pleural effusion, malignant mesothelioma, and metastatic cancers with pleural involvement.
