Fast TILs is an investigational autologous adoptive cellular therapy (ACT) developed by the Allegheny Health Network Research Institute (Allegheny Singer Research Institute). The therapy utilizes pleural infiltrating T-cells (PITs) harvested directly from a patient's malignant pleural effusion. These cells are rapidly expanded and activated ex vivo using CD3/CD28 microparticles to create a therapeutic product. The treatment protocol involves lymphodepleting chemotherapy followed by the intrapleural administration of the expanded PITs via an indwelling catheter. To support the survival and anti-tumor activity of the infused cells, low-dose Interleukin-2 (IL-2) is also administered intrapleurally. This approach is specifically designed to treat cancers involving the pleural space, such as malignant mesothelioma and metastatic pleural effusions from various epithelial primary tumors.
