Overview

Faster-acting insulin aspart is a rapid-acting formulation of the recombinant human insulin analogue, insulin aspart. It is designed to more closely mimic the physiological postprandial (mealtime) insulin response in people with diabetes. Compared to regular human insulin and standard formulations of insulin aspart, this formulation has an even quicker onset of action—entering the bloodstream in approximately 2.5 minutes after subcutaneous injection—allowing for greater flexibility around meal times[6]. The mechanism of action involves binding to and activating the human Insulin receptor on target cells (primarily muscle and adipose tissue), which promotes glucose uptake from the blood into tissues and suppresses hepatic glucose production[1][8]. Faster absorption is achieved by adding excipients such as niacinamide (vitamin B3) that increase vascular permeability at the injection site. It is indicated for improving glycemic control in adults and children with type 1 or type 2 diabetes mellitus[6].
