Overview

Lipovenös is an intravenous lipid emulsion composed primarily of soybean oil (triglycerides) and egg phospholipids, available in 10% and 20% concentrations. Developed and manufactured by Fresenius Kabi, it is used as a component of parenteral nutrition to provide essential fatty acids and energy to patients who cannot receive adequate oral or enteral nutrition, particularly neonates and critically ill pediatric patients. The emulsion provides exogenous triglycerides that serve as energy substrates, helping to maintain energy balance and reduce catabolism-related morbidity. A Phase 4 clinical trial conducted by the Universitätskinderklinik Heidelberg evaluated Lipovenös alongside carnitine supplementation in critically ill children with sepsis or birth asphyxia, although the study was terminated prematurely.
