Overview

FatP1 RNAi refers to an experimental RNA interference construct designed to silence the expression of Fatty Acid Transport Protein 1 (FatP1). In the context of research conducted at Charité - University Medicine Berlin, this tool is used in *Drosophila melanogaster* models to investigate the role of lipid transport in cardiac diastolic function. By utilizing the UAS/GAL4 system for tissue-specific knockdown, researchers demonstrated that reducing FatP1-mediated fatty acid uptake in adipose tissue leads to cardiac lipid overload, mitochondrial dysfunction, and diastolic dysfunction, mimicking aspects of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). Conversely, cardiac-specific knockdown affects both systolic and diastolic function through different mechanisms.
