Overview

Favirept is a polyspecific, equine F(ab')2-based antivenom designed to treat snake envenoming in the Middle East and North Africa. Originally developed by Sanofi Pasteur and acquired by MicroPharm in June 2024, the product contains purified F(ab')2 fragments of polyclonal antibodies generated from horses immunized with the venoms of clinically significant snake species in the region, including members of the genera *Bitis*, *Echis*, *Naja*, *Cerastes*, and *Macrovipera*. These antibodies bind to and neutralize various snake venom toxins, providing passive immunity to counteract the toxic effects of the venom. Although the product was withdrawn from the market in 2015, MicroPharm is currently redeveloping the antivenom to address the significant therapeutic gap in the Middle East and North African markets.
