FAZ053 is an investigational monoclonal antibody that targets programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1). By binding to PD-L1, FAZ053 blocks its interaction with the programmed death 1 (PD-1) receptor and B7.1, thereby inhibiting the PD-L1 immune checkpoint pathway. This action enhances T-cell-mediated anti-tumor immune responses and reverses T-cell inactivation, making cancer cells more susceptible to immune attack. FAZ053 was originally developed by Novartis for use in advanced cancers and has been evaluated in phase 1 clinical trials as both a single agent and in combination with other immunotherapies such as PDR001. In March 2020, Laekna Therapeutics acquired exclusive global rights from Novartis to further develop and commercialize FAZ053.
