FB7023 is an investigational long-acting small interfering RNA (siRNA) therapeutic developed by Frontier Biotechnologies for the treatment of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). It is designed to target and silence the mRNA encoding proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9), a protein that plays a critical role in cholesterol homeostasis by promoting the degradation of low-density lipoprotein receptors (LDLR) in the liver. By inhibiting the production of PCSK9 through RNA interference, FB7023 increases the density of LDLR on the surface of hepatocytes, thereby enhancing the clearance of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) from the bloodstream. As a siRNA-based therapy, FB7023 is intended to provide a durable lipid-lowering effect with a convenient, infrequent dosing schedule (such as twice yearly), which may improve patient adherence and long-term cardiovascular outcomes compared to daily oral medications or more frequent injections.
