Overview

FBT-002 is a therapeutic candidate developed by Fabentech for the treatment of Staphylococcal Enterotoxin B (SEB) poisoning. It consists of highly purified equine F(ab')2 fragments obtained from the plasma of horses immunized against SEB. As a superantigen, SEB triggers a massive, non-specific activation of T-cells, leading to a life-threatening cytokine storm and toxic shock syndrome. FBT-002 works through passive immunization, where the antibody fragments bind to and neutralize the circulating toxin, thereby preventing its interaction with the immune system. The use of F(ab')2 fragments instead of whole IgG reduces the risk of adverse reactions such as serum sickness while maintaining a rapid distribution profile suitable for emergency toxin neutralization. Clinical development has been supported by partnerships with organizations like Eurofins Optimed for trial management.
