Drug intelligence / Profile preview
FBT-N101 is a small molecule MDM2 inhibitor being developed by FusionBioTech (in collaboration with the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, UNIST) for the treatment of dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD). As a senolytic agent, FBT-N101 selectively targets and eliminates senescent retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells, which are key contributors to the pathogenesis and progression of dry AMD. By inhibiting MDM2 (mouse double minute 2 homolog), an E3 ubiquitin ligase that acts as a negative regulator of the p53 tumor suppressor, FBT-N101 disrupts the MDM2-p53 interaction. This leads to the stabilization and accumulation of p53, which selectively triggers apoptosis in senescent cells while sparing healthy cells. FBT-N101 is currently in the research/preclinical stage of development.
