Overview

FcεRIβ antisense oligomer is an antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) designed to target the messenger RNA (mRNA) of the beta subunit of the high-affinity IgE receptor (FcεRIβ). The FcεRI receptor is a key mediator of allergic responses, found primarily on the surface of mast cells and basophils; the beta subunit functions to amplify the signaling cascade initiated by IgE binding. By inhibiting the translation of FcεRIβ, this antisense therapy aims to reduce the density of high-affinity IgE receptors on effector cells, thereby desensitizing them to allergens and suppressing the inflammatory response in conditions such as asthma and allergic rhinitis. The program was primarily developed by Topigen Pharmaceuticals (later acquired by Pharmaxis) but has largely remained in the preclinical stages of development.
