Drug intelligence / Profile preview
FC-001 is a selective small molecule inhibitor of the cystine/glutamate antiporter xCT (SLC7A11), developed by the Japanese biotechnology company FeroptoCure. The drug's mechanism of action involves blocking the uptake of cystine into cells, which leads to the depletion of intracellular glutathione (GSH) and the subsequent induction of ferroptosis—a form of regulated, iron-dependent cell death. FC-001 is being developed as a potential first-in-class therapy for advanced solid tumors, with a specific clinical focus on triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). In addition to human clinical applications, the compound is also being evaluated in the preclinical stage for veterinary oncology indications to treat animal cancers.
