Drug intelligence / Profile preview
FC001 refers to two distinct investigational products. (1) Developed by ForCast Orthopedics, FC001 is a targeted antibiotic therapy for the treatment of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). It utilizes a proprietary Wearable Intra-Articular Infusion System (WIIS) to deliver vancomycin directly into the infected joint, targeting biofilm-resistant gram-positive bacteria. This program has received FDA Orphan Drug and Qualified Infectious Disease Product (QIDP) designations. (2) Developed by FerroptoCure KK, FC-001 (also known as FC001) is a small molecule inhibitor of the cystine/glutamate transporter SLC7A11 (xCT). It is designed to induce ferroptosis specifically in cancer cells and is currently in Phase 1 development for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) and other solid tumors.
