FC818 is a small molecule hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase (HIF-PH) inhibitor developed by PUMC Pharmaceutical for the treatment of nephrology-related conditions, specifically anemia associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD). By inhibiting the HIF-PH enzyme, the drug stabilizes HIF-alpha, which mimics the physiological response to hypoxia and stimulates the production of endogenous erythropoietin (EPO). This mechanism also improves iron absorption and utilization, facilitating erythropoiesis. FC818 is administered orally and is currently in Phase 2 clinical development, offering a potential alternative to traditional injectable erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (ESAs).
