FCS005 is a synthetic **coumarin analogue**—specifically, 3-methyl-7H-furo[3,2-g]chromen-7-one—studied for its **antiparkinsonian potential**. In animal models, it **reverses hypokinesia** (motor impairment) induced by reserpine and shows anticataleptic effects. Mechanistically, FCS005 acts as a **selective inhibitor of monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B)**, without activity at MAO-A at clinically relevant concentrations, and also possesses **antioxidant activity**. These properties suggest FCS005 may increase and prolong dopaminergic activity by preventing the breakdown of dopamine, a strategy used in Parkinson's disease therapy. Developers have noted its structural similarity to psoralen but with notable selective MAO-B inhibition. Evidence for FCS005 is currently limited to preclinical animal and in vitro studies[1][3].
