Overview
FCWAY is a PET radioligand specifically designed for imaging serotonin 5-hydroxytryptamine-1A (5-HT1A) receptors in the brain. When labeled with fluorine-18 (18F), it becomes 18F-FCWAY, which is used in positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. A significant challenge with this radioligand is that it undergoes defluorination in the body, resulting in high uptake of radioactivity in the skull and potential interference with brain imaging. Research has shown that inhibitors of the cytochrome P450 enzyme CYP2E1, such as disulfiram, can significantly reduce this defluorination process, improving imaging quality.
