Overview

FDNZ is a novel fluorinated nitazene analog developed by researchers at the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). It acts as a highly potent mu-opioid receptor (MOR) agonist with poor blood-brain barrier permeability, resulting in impaired brain penetrance. Preclinical studies in rodents demonstrate that FDNZ produces robust peripheral analgesic effects with weak reinforcing properties and a rapid extinction of self-administration behavior, suggesting a lower risk of abuse liability and respiratory depression compared to conventional centrally-penetrant MOR agonists.
