Overview

FDTAB is a brand name for a fast-dissolving formulation of famotidine, a potent histamine H2-receptor antagonist. Developed and manufactured by Cadila Pharmaceuticals, FDTAB is designed to disintegrate rapidly in the mouth without the need for water, which facilitates administration for patients with swallowing difficulties (dysphagia). Famotidine works by competitively inhibiting the binding of histamine to H2 receptors located on the basolateral membrane of gastric parietal cells. This inhibition leads to a significant reduction in both the volume and acidity of gastric acid secretion, effectively managing conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gastric and duodenal ulcers, and pathological hypersecretory states like Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. As a small molecule therapy, it provides rapid relief from symptoms of acid indigestion and heartburn.
