**Fe(III)-tannic acid** is an iron(III)-polyphenol coordination material investigated as the redox-active core of ultrasmall dopamine-modified hyaluronic acid-stabilized nanoparticles for atherosclerosis. In the reported preclinical formulation, the nanoparticles preferentially accumulated in inflammatory plaque macrophages, enhanced magnetic-resonance imaging contrast, and used acidic, hydrogen peroxide-rich intracellular conditions to generate reactive oxygen species and induce inflammatory-macrophage death.
