FEC100 + docetaxel is a sequential combination chemotherapy regimen used primarily in the treatment of early and locally advanced breast cancer. The regimen consists of three drugs—fluorouracil (5-FU), epirubicin, and cyclophosphamide (collectively known as FEC100)—administered for several cycles, followed by additional cycles of the taxane docetaxel. The "100" in FEC100 refers to the dose of epirubicin at 100 mg/m² per cycle. This combination exploits different mechanisms to maximize antitumor activity and reduce resistance. - **Fluorouracil** is an antimetabolite that inhibits thymidylate synthase. - **Epirubicin** is an anthracycline antibiotic that intercalates into DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II. - **Cyclophosphamide** is an alkylating agent causing cross-linking of DNA strands. - **Docetaxel** is a taxane that stabilizes microtubules, inhibiting cell division. This sequential approach has demonstrated improved disease-free survival and overall survival compared to anthracycline-based regimens alone in node-positive breast cancer patients[1][2][3]. It is commonly used as adjuvant or neoadjuvant therapy.
