Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fecal Inoculum Capsule is an oral fecal microbiota transplant (FMT) product developed by Massachusetts General Hospital for the treatment of gut dysbiosis in individuals with HIV infection. The therapy consists of sieved fecal matter from healthy donors, prepared in a glycerol/saline solution and encapsulated for oral administration. In the context of HIV, chronic inflammation and immune activation often persist despite effective antiretroviral therapy (ART), a condition frequently linked to alterations in the gut microbiome and impaired intestinal barrier function (leaky gut). This FMT product aims to restore a diverse and healthy microbial community, thereby potentially reducing systemic inflammation and improving the immunological profile of HIV-infected patients.
