Fecal microbiome transplant (FMT) is a medical procedure in which processed stool from a healthy donor is transferred into the gastrointestinal tract of a recipient. The goal is to restore the balance and diversity of beneficial gut microorganisms in patients whose native gut flora has been disrupted—most commonly due to antibiotic use or disease. FMT works by introducing thousands of beneficial bacteria and other microbes from donor feces into the patient’s colon, helping to outcompete pathogenic organisms such as *Clostridioides difficile* (C. diff). This therapy has proven highly effective for recurrent or refractory C. diff infections that do not respond to standard antibiotics, with cure rates approaching 85–90%. FMT can be delivered via colonoscopy, enema, oral capsules containing freeze-dried material, or upper endoscopy. While its primary approved indication is for recurrent C. diff infection in adults and children after failure of conventional therapies, research continues into its potential applications for other conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), obesity-related disorders, and certain neurological diseases; however these uses remain investigational[1][2][3][5][6][7][8].
