Overview

Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is a therapeutic procedure where fecal matter from a healthy donor is transferred into the gastrointestinal tract of a recipient. This specific intervention, developed by the Affiliated Hospital to Academy of Military Medical Sciences, is being evaluated for the treatment of steroid-resistant acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) of the gut. The therapy aims to restore intestinal microbial diversity, which is typically depleted in aGVHD patients, thereby modulating the mucosal immune system and reducing intestinal inflammation. By re-establishing a healthy microbial community, FMT may help suppress the inflammatory processes that drive gut-associated GVHD.
