Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fecal microbiota for transplantation is an investigational live biotherapeutic product developed by OSF HealthCare for the treatment of recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI). It is administered via endoscopic instillation into the colon. The therapy aims to resolve chronic CDI in patients who have not responded to conventional antimicrobial treatments by restoring a healthy and diverse gut microbial community. This restoration process involves introducing live bacteria from a healthy, screened donor's stool, which competitively excludes C. difficile, breaks the cycle of recurrence, and re-establishes the normal metabolic and immunological functions of the gut microbiome.
