Overview

Fecal microbiota transplant (FMT) is a biological therapy consisting of the transfer of distal gut microbial communities from a healthy donor to a patient with intestinal dysbiosis. Developed as a clinical protocol by Fakultni Nemocnice Kralovske Vinohrady (University Hospital Kralovske Vinohrady), this specific allogeneic transplant is primarily investigated for the treatment of post-antibiotic diarrhea and *Clostridioides difficile* infection. The therapy works by re-establishing a diverse and functional microbiome, which provides colonization resistance against pathogens, restores normal bile acid metabolism, and helps resolve gut inflammation. It is typically administered via colonoscopy, enema, or oral capsules containing frozen or lyophilized microbiota.
