Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fecal microbiota transplant (FMT) from Lifespan Biotech is an investigational live biotherapeutic product for the treatment of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). The therapy involves transferring fecal matter from healthy, lean donors to patients with NASH with the goal of restoring a healthy gut microbiome. The underlying hypothesis is that correcting the imbalance of gut bacteria (dysbiosis), which is suspected to be a key driver in the progression of fatty liver disease, can be beneficial. A pilot study was initiated to evaluate the safety and efficacy of this approach.
