Overview

Fecal microbiota transplant (FMT) is a microbial therapy being evaluated by Shanghai Zhongshan Hospital for the treatment of locally advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The intervention utilizes a capsulized formulation of washed fecal microbiota to reconstruct the patient's gut microbiome. This strategy is intended to enhance the therapeutic efficacy and safety of immune checkpoint inhibitors, specifically anti-PD-1 and anti-PD-L1 monoclonal antibodies, by modulating the host's immune environment. In clinical trials, this FMT product is administered orally in combination with standard-of-care immunotherapy (anti-PD-1 or anti-PD-L1 antibodies) and platinum-based chemotherapy to patients who have achieved stable disease after first-line treatment.
