Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fecal microbiota transplant (FMT) capsules are an oral formulation containing a processed and encapsulated consortium of live microorganisms derived from the stool of healthy donors. This specific program, evaluated by Shanxi Provincial People's Hospital, is being investigated for the treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD). The therapy aims to modulate the gut-kidney axis by restoring a healthy and diverse gut microbiome. This restoration is intended to reduce the production and accumulation of gut-derived uremic toxins (such as p-cresyl sulfate and indoxyl sulfate) and dampen systemic inflammation, which are key drivers of renal decline and cardiovascular complications in CKD patients.
