Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) developed by the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Fuwai Hospital is an investigational biologic intervention for the treatment of primary hypertension. [3-5, 5-8] It is administered as oral capsules containing gut microbiota derived from healthy donors. [3-5, 5-8] The therapeutic hypothesis is that restoring gut microbiome dysbiosis, which has been linked to the development of hypertension, can lead to a reduction in blood pressure. [3-10] A multicenter, randomized, blinded, placebo-controlled clinical trial (NCT04406129) was conducted in China to evaluate the efficacy and safety of this intervention in patients with grade 1 hypertension. [3-11, 5-8, 5-11]
