Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fecal microbiota transplantation (Helsinki University Central Hospital) is a biologic, live microbial therapy being developed by Helsinki University Central Hospital for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) associated with food intolerance. The therapy involves transplanting fecal microbiota from healthy donors into patients to modulate and restore a healthy gut microbiome. It is being investigated in the FinFMT-IBS (NCT05361785) placebo-controlled clinical trial, which specifically aims to determine if the treatment can help IBS patients on a restricted low-FODMAP diet to reintroduce these foods without worsening their intestinal symptoms. The intervention is administered via an initial colonoscopy followed by subsequent enemas.
