Overview
Fecal Microbiota Transplantation (FMT) capsules are a microbial therapy being developed and evaluated by the Sixth Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University, for the treatment of hemorrhagic radiation-induced proctopathy (radiation-induced proctitis). The therapy consists of encapsulated fecal microbiota derived from healthy donors, designed to restore intestinal microbial diversity and mitigate the inflammatory environment caused by pelvic radiation. By correcting gut dysbiosis, the treatment aims to alleviate severe rectal bleeding and promote endoscopic healing in patients who have failed standard supportive care. In clinical trials, the intervention is administered orally in multiple sessions over a 12-week period.
