Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fei Wei Fang is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula primarily developed and studied for the treatment of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) and other interstitial lung diseases. The formula typically consists of a combination of herbs such as *Astragalus membranaceus* (Huangqi), *Rehmannia glutinosa* (Dihuang), *Panax ginseng* (Renshen), and *Pheretima aspergillum* (Dilong/Earthworm). Its mechanism of action involves the inhibition of the TGF-β1/Smad signaling pathway, which is a key driver of myofibroblast activation and extracellular matrix deposition in the lungs. It also demonstrates anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties by modulating cytokine expression and reducing oxidative stress. Clinical research, particularly in China, has evaluated its efficacy in improving lung function, exercise tolerance, and quality of life in patients with chronic fibrotic lung conditions.
