Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fel-O-Vax FIV is an inactivated, adjuvanted vaccine developed to aid in the prevention of infection by the Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) in healthy cats 8 weeks of age or older. The vaccine is unique for its dual-subtype composition, containing inactivated whole viruses and infected cells from both FIV subtype A (Petaluma strain) and subtype D (Shizuoka strain). This formulation is designed to confer cross-protective immunity against various global FIV subtypes, including the prevalent subtype B. The vaccine stimulates both humoral and cellular immune responses to protect against the immunosuppressive effects of this lentivirus. Originally developed by Fort Dodge Animal Health, the vaccine's ownership transitioned through Pfizer and Boehringer Ingelheim before being acquired by Elanco as part of its U.S. companion animal vaccine portfolio.
