Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fel-O-Vax Lv-K is an adjuvanted, monovalent vaccine containing whole inactivated (killed) feline leukemia virus (FeLV). Originally developed by Fort Dodge Animal Health and now part of the Elanco animal health portfolio, it is designed for the active immunization of healthy cats 10 weeks of age or older against Feline Leukemia Virus. FeLV is a retrovirus known to cause severe immunosuppression, anemia, and various forms of cancer in feline populations. The vaccine stimulates the feline immune system to recognize viral proteins, thereby preventing persistent infection and viremia following exposure to the pathogen. Clinical trials have demonstrated high efficacy, with preventable fractions reaching up to 100% in certain challenge studies. It is typically administered via subcutaneous or intramuscular injection as a two-dose primary series followed by annual revaccination.
