Feline granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (feline GM-CSF) is a hematopoietic cytokine that regulates the survival, proliferation, differentiation, and activation of feline myeloid cells, including granulocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. It exerts its biological effects by binding to the heterodimeric GM-CSF receptor complex, which consists of a ligand-binding alpha subunit (GM-CSF R alpha / CD116) and a signal-transducing common beta subunit (CD131). This binding triggers downstream signaling cascades, including the JAK/STAT, MAPK/ERK, and PI3K-AKT pathways. Feline GM-CSF is primarily utilized as a research-use-only recombinant protein to study feline immunology, hematopoiesis, and dendritic cell differentiation. It has also been investigated in experimental veterinary settings, such as an adjuvant in DNA vaccines or in gene therapy protocols for feline cancers and viral infections.
