Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Felis catus hair** is a standardized allergenic extract biologic derived from domestic cat hair and used as an allergen immunotherapy and diagnostic skin-test reagent for cat allergy. Developed and marketed in the United States by **Nelco Laboratories**, this BLA-regulated product is standardized in **Bioequivalent Allergy Units per mL** and administered by **intradermal** skin testing for diagnosis and **subcutaneous** injection for desensitization therapy. Its pharmacologic effect is not conventional receptor agonism or antagonism; rather, it exposes patients to cat allergen proteins to identify or modulate **IgE-mediated hypersensitivity** to cat allergens, with use in patients with allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, and allergic asthma when cat avoidance is not feasible.
