Overview
Felodipine + ramipril is a fixed-dose combination drug consisting of two antihypertensive agents used for the treatment of essential hypertension in adults whose blood pressure is inadequately controlled with either agent alone. Felodipine is a long-acting dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that inhibits the influx of calcium ions through voltage-gated L-type calcium channels in vascular smooth muscle cells, leading to vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. Ramipril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor that blocks the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, resulting in vasodilation and decreased aldosterone secretion. The combination provides additive antihypertensive effects compared to monotherapy with either component and may also attenuate reflex tachycardia associated with felodipine alone. It has demonstrated efficacy in controlling blood pressure and providing renal protection in hypertensive patients, including those with non-diabetic chronic kidney disease[2][4][5][8].
