Overview

Felycin-CA1 is a conditionally FDA-approved veterinary drug indicated for the management of ventricular hypertrophy in cats with subclinical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). It is the first approved treatment specifically for feline HCM. The active ingredient is sirolimus (also known as rapamycin), formulated as a species-specific delayed-release oral tablet administered once weekly at a target dose of 0.3 mg/kg. Sirolimus acts by inhibiting the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway, which plays a key role in abnormal cardiac muscle growth and remodeling associated with HCM. At this low dose, it is not expected to cause immunosuppression in cats, unlike higher doses used in human organ transplant patients. Felycin-CA1 aims to reduce ventricular wall thickening and slow disease progression during the subclinical phase before clinical symptoms develop. It should be prescribed by licensed veterinarians and cats must be screened for pre-existing liver disease or diabetes mellitus before use.
