Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Felypressin is a synthetic nonapeptide analog of vasopressin (also known as lypressin), primarily used as a non-catecholamine vasoconstrictor in local anesthetic injections for dental procedures. It is often combined with local anesthetics such as prilocaine to prolong anesthesia and reduce bleeding by constricting blood vessels at the injection site. Compared to vasopressin, felypressin has greater vasoconstrictor activity but less antidiuretic effect. Its mechanism of action involves binding to the vasopressin receptor V1a, leading to contraction of vascular smooth muscle, especially in capillaries, small arterioles, and venules[1][2][3][5]. Felypressin is considered an alternative to adrenaline (epinephrine) for patients where adrenergic side effects are undesirable or contraindicated[4][6].
