Overview

FemBloc is a first-of-its-kind, non-surgical, non-hormonal permanent birth control system for women. The procedure uses a minimally invasive catheter device to deliver a proprietary synthetic biopolymer into each fallopian tube via the uterus. This biopolymer induces tissue response and scarring that occludes (blocks) the tubes over several weeks, resulting in permanent contraception. The biopolymer degrades fully over time and leaves the body, with no permanent implant left behind. After three months, tubal occlusion is confirmed by an in-office ultrasound-based test using saline and air contrast (FemChec). Unlike traditional surgical sterilization methods (such as tubal ligation), FemBloc does not require anesthesia, incisions, or implants and can be performed in an office setting. It is being developed as a safer, more accessible alternative to surgery for women seeking permanent contraception[1][3][4][8][9].
