Drug intelligence / Profile preview
FemLife Gel is a topical formulation of alprostadil (prostaglandin E1) developed by Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for the treatment of female sexual arousal disorder (FSAD). As a prostaglandin E1 analog, alprostadil acts as a potent vasodilator, increasing local blood flow to genital tissues to facilitate arousal. The therapy was specifically evaluated in post-menopausal women as a non-hormonal alternative to traditional hormone replacement therapies for sexual dysfunction. The clinical development involved a crossover study design to compare the safety and efficacy of the active gel against a placebo formulation.
