Drug intelligence / Profile preview
FengLing is a citrate-based effervescent tablet formulation developed as a hospital preparation by the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University. It is primarily utilized as a urine alkalizing agent in the management of primary gout and hyperuricemia. The formulation typically consists of a combination of citrate salts, such as potassium citrate and sodium citrate, which function by increasing the pH of the urine. This increase in alkalinity enhances the solubility of uric acid, thereby promoting its renal excretion and preventing the formation of urate crystals and stones in the urinary tract. In clinical research, FengLing is often evaluated as a supportive co-therapy alongside xanthine oxidase inhibitors like febuxostat to optimize the treatment of hyperuricemia and reduce the risk of renal complications associated with high uric acid levels.
