Overview

Fenleamine is a novel, selective, and irreversible monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) inhibitor developed by the Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (IMM, CAMS) for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. By inhibiting MAO-B, fenleamine prevents the breakdown of dopamine in the brain, thereby alleviating motor symptoms associated with dopamine deficiency. In addition to its symptomatic effects, preclinical studies suggest that fenleamine possesses neuroprotective properties, potentially through the reduction of oxidative stress and inhibition of apoptosis in dopaminergic neurons. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials in China as a Class 1.1 innovative drug, both as a monotherapy for early-stage Parkinson's and as an adjunct to levodopa in advanced stages.
