This results in reduced total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, VLDL cholesterol, and triglycerides while increasing HDL cholesterol. Fatty acids such as prescription omega-3s are also effective at lowering triglyceride levels through mechanisms including inhibition of hepatic very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) synthesis.
