fenoldopam

Fenoldopam is a synthetic benzazepine derivative and selective dopamine D1 receptor agonist used as a rapid-acting, short-term intravenous antihypertensive agent. It lowers blood pressure by causing arteriolar vasodilation, primarily through activation of peripheral D1-like dopamine receptors, with minimal adrenergic effects. Fenoldopam increases renal blood flow and promotes natriuresis and diuresis, making it particularly useful in hypertensive emergencies or when rapid blood pressure reduction is required in hospital settings. The drug has no significant affinity for D2-like receptors or beta-adrenoceptors but binds with moderate affinity to alpha2-adrenoceptors. Its onset of action is within minutes and duration is less than 10 minutes after infusion stops[1][2][5][8].
