Fenpropidin is a small molecule fungicide belonging to the piperidine class, primarily used in agriculture to control fungal diseases in cereals such as powdery mildew, rhynchosporium, and rusts. Its mechanism of action involves inhibition of sterol biosynthesis in fungal cell membranes by specifically inhibiting sterol 14-reductase. This disrupts membrane integrity and function, leading to antifungal effects. Fenpropidin has also been investigated for non-agricultural uses such as treatment of hernia but is not approved for human pharmaceutical use[1][3][4].
