Overview

Fenprostalene is a synthetic, long-acting analog of prostaglandin F2 alpha (PGF2α) used in veterinary medicine. It acts primarily as an abortifacient and for the induction of parturition in livestock, including cattle, swine, and dogs. In cattle, it is indicated to induce abortion in feedlot heifers pregnant up to 150 days and for estrus synchronization in beef or nonlactating dairy cattle. In swine (sows and gilts), it is used to induce parturition at least 112 days into pregnancy. Its mechanism of action involves agonism at the prostaglandin F2 alpha receptor (PTGFR), leading to uterotonic effects that facilitate abortion or labor induction[3][4][5][6]. Fenprostalene is not approved for human use.
