fenquizone

Fenquizone is a thiazide-like diuretic of the low-ceiling sulfonamide class, structurally related to metolazone and based on a quinazolinone sulphonamide scaffold. It is primarily used in the treatment of edema and hypertension. Fenquizone acts by blocking sodium reabsorption mainly at the cortical diluting segment (distal convoluted tubule) of the nephron, as well as in the proximal tubule and ascending limb of Henle’s loop. This results in increased excretion of sodium and chloride, leading to diuresis. Its pharmacological effects are similar to those of thiazide diuretics but with some differences in site specificity; it does not significantly affect free water reabsorption or renal blood flow. At low doses, fenquizone lowers blood pressure without typical secondary effects seen with other diuretics, making it suitable for long-term use[1][3][6][8].
